I came upon the Bournemouth University Cleaning Policy and Rubbish Collection web page today.

Well, brilliant idea to try and keep the premises clean at all times (residential and communal areas) – ask the students to keep their rooms clean or face the cleaning bill. Excellent and quite effective!

We all know usually students tend to “destroy” accommodation. We’ve all heard the horror stories from landlords and letting agents – thrashed properties, total absence of cleaning (what is that?), rent defaults etc.

The governors at Bournemouth University have made a wise choice. I believe there must be some kind of deposit held on these residential units.

Nothing is said about arrangements for preventative carpet cleaning Bournemouth University must have in place within their cleaning requirements. Who will pick up the bill if the communal area carpets get all stained and soiled by the students? Imagine a large party arriving from a muddy Glastonbury Festival covered in dirt :) What a disaster for the carpets.

I guess the contract carpet cleaners will have to be called urgently and Bournemouth University picking up the bill for the carpet cleaning required. That’s reality.
